 General Chest Rub
This method is useful for discomfort related to the chest and lungs. Use one teaspoon of carrier oil and mix in 1 drop Lemon, 2 drops Eucalyptus (Globulus) or Eucalyptus (Radiata), and 3 drops Rosemary (any type). Mix well and rub the oil into the chest and neck. This method works especially well with fresh oils. Oils 2 years or older may still work if you add an extra drop or two of each older oil. Oils over 3 years old will produce minimal results.

 Jonn's Toothpowder
Find some aluminum free baking soda and some fine granule sea salt. Mix these in a 60% baking soda 40% salt ratio. Take about 3-4 tablespoons of this mix and place it into a small bowl. Add 2-3 drops of any of the following oils: Myrrh, Peppermint, Fennel, Anise, Chamomile (Roman), Lemon. Mix well. Don't use more than about 6-8 drops total per 3-4 tablespoons of mix. This tooth powder works better than some toothpastes out there, it doesn't contain any Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, there is minimal waste/packaging, it's more compact than toothpaste, and it's CHEAP!!

Blood Pressure - Normalizes
-- Oils listed here are said to normalize blood pressure - that is to say, if blood pressure is too high it will lower it; if blood pressure is too low it will raise it

Body Odor
Essential Oils:  Allspice     Anise (Aniseed)     Benzoin     Bergamot     Coriander     Cypress     Eucalyptus (Citriodora)     Eucalyptus (Globulus)     Lemon     Neroli (Portugal)     Peppermint     Petitgrain     Spikenard     Spruce (Black)
Carrier Oils:   Coconut (Fractionated)    Coconut (Refined)    Coconut (Unrefined)    Shea Nut

 Compact Deodorant
For this recipe you will need about 2 tablespoons pure refined Shea Nut oil (aka Shea Butter), (unrefined Shea Butter will work but will have a different smell that some may not like...). Next add 10-20 drops of the oils listed above of your choice - a mix of Lemon and Coriander usually works nice. Smash the oils into the Shea Butter repeatedly until you have a nice thick consistent cream. I usually like to add a couple of drops of Fractionated Coconut oil to the mix as well which will help firm up the cream after a day or two. Regular Coconut oil will work for this purpose as well. Finally, put the finished cream into a container of your choice. I find that small 10ml clear cream jars work nice for this purpose. A small amount of this cream is all that is needed each day to keep B.O. away. A 10ml jar of it usually lasts me for about 3 weeks of continuous daily use.

Burns
-- Be aware that serious burns (due to electricity, corrosive material, fire, etc) are often followed by shock. Shock may or may not occur immediately, sometimes showing up an hour or more after the burn occured. Serious burns should always be seen by a health care professional. Grab your oils and ice packs, jump in the car, and have your friend drive you to an immediate care unit!

 Gattefosse Burn Solution
If the burn has not ruptured the skin, cool the burned area as soon as possible with cold water. Continue to cool the affected area even after the pain has subsided. Internal damage to tissues will continue to occur as long as the transfered heat remains inside the skin! Do not cover the burn with any type of heavy oil as doing such will trap the heat into the skin. Keep the burned area away from any source of heat such as a heater, hot water, direct sunlight, etc. The idea is to keep the area as cool as possible. If possible do not cover the burned area as any type of bandage is going to keep heat trapped in the area. Once the burn has been cooled apply 1-3 drops of Lavender oil directly onto the affected area. Cool the area again if pain returns and then add another 1-3 drops of Lavender.

If the burn was severe enough to cause blistering do not burst the blister(s) as this will likely cause even more pain and result in an open wound!

For large area burns try the following: Fill a ziploc bag no more than half way full with water, squeeze out the air and seal it. Place that in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. In the mean time continue to cool the burn with water or ice and apply drops of Lavender oil. Take the bag out and wrap it with tissue, toilet paper, gause (even better), an old tee-shirt, etc. Place 2 teaspoons water into a bowl and drop in a few drops of Lavender oil. Mix as much as possible and then dip ziploc bag / tissue into the water. Use this to cool the burned area.

If Lavender is unavailable try using Roman Chamomile or German Chamomile applied directly to the burned area.

Micropore Tape
Use micropore tape whenever possible for dressing wounds or covering damaged skin or cuts. Micropore tape is inexpensive, easily found in most drug stores, and can be easily cut to the exact size to cover the area. In addition, the tape lets the skin breath which will aid in the healing process.

Post Burn Ideas
After a couple of hours of cooling the affected area consider applying Aloe Vera to the area. It's also possible to mix a teaspoon of Aloe Vera with 1-2 drops of one of the essential oils listed for burns and apply that mixture to the area. Once the burn ceases to cause pain (a few hours or a day later) try a teaspoon of Rosehip Seed or Neem Seed oil mixed with one or two drops of an essential oil listed for burns.

Vitamin C
The word 'vitamin' is a combined word from the two: vital mineral. Vitamin C is known for its ability to boost the immune system, repair cellular damage, and help alleviate stress/shock. The half-life of Vitamin C in the blood is about 30-45 minutes. So, taking smaller doses, say 200mg once every 2 hours is much more effective than taking one 1,000mg dose once per day. By taking in Vitamin C, a health problem is likely to recover more quickly. A great source are potatoes. Research Proving Vitamin C's Therapeutic Value in 200+ Diseases

Candida
-- Any fungal condition including skin outbreaks, nail infections, thrush, bleeding gums, joint pain, and hair loss from an opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans. A Candida over-growth will likely attack the weakest part of the body first which is why the symptoms are variable. By-products from Candida impede the immune system and allow it to grow and spread in the body. Candida albicans grows naturally in the intestinal tract. Often, Candida will have an over-growth and make its way into the blood stream. Some studies suggest that 60% to 90% of the population has an over-growth of Candida in their bodies - most of them completely unaware of it! The surest way to know if you have a Candida over-growth is to get a blood test specifically for Candida albicans. If you test positive then that means that it has made its way into your blood stream. This means that any fungal conditions that you might have are quite likely internal - meaning that the fungus is being supported by the Candida in your blood... no amount of washing or topical application of Tea Tree oil, etc. is going to make it go away... Although there are plenty of book authors that suggest how to best Live with Candida there are some ways to just go ahead and get rid of it!! Yes, Fluconazole is a nice quick-fix but it usually just takes care of the symptoms and not the real problem - plus, repeated use of Fluconazole takes its toll on the body. Its important to note that there are several types of Candida:
  Candida albicans
Candida glabrata
Candida tropicalis
Candida parapsilosis
Candida pseudotropicalis
Candida krusei
Candida guilliermondii
Candida stellatoidea

 Four Thieves Blend
The story goes that in the early 1400s during the bubonic plague outbreak in Europe, four thieves appeared on the scene and repeatedly robbed dead and dying plague victims. Upon their capture and conviction the courts asked the four men how they were able to escape death by the plague. The men then explained that they were spice traders and perfumers and finally revealed their aromatic concoction in exchange for leniency for their crimes. There is some speculation as to whether or not the four theives actually existed and often the recipe for their blend seems to be debated. However, most aromatherapists agree that the blend does consist of some quantity of the following oils: Clove Bud, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus (likely Eucalyptus radiata), and Rosemary. It is said that the theives rubbed this mixture onto their hands, ears, and temples before each of their robbing sprees.

Some sources suggest simply using one part of each oil: 1 drop Clove Bud with 1 drop Lemon with 1 drop Cinnamon Bark, etc. mixed in a carrier oil of your choice. Other sources suggest the following ratios of each oil all blended together mixed in a carrier oil of your choice.

Clove Bud - 8 drops
Lemon - 7 drops
Cinnamon Bark - 4 drops
Eucalyptus radiata - 3 drops
Rosemary - 2 drops

More recently univeristy studies have shown that these 5 oils blended together will kill 99.9% of airborne bacteria!

-- Plant essence often has a "Diaphoretic" effect. This means that the essence will be warming and stimulating and encouraging blood to flow more freely and an increase in body temperature and sweat. Because of such an effect, a plant essence may be able to help a person raise the body temperature just enough to break a fever. Obviously, if a person’s temperature is dangerously high this is not necessarily a good way to approach the problem.

Frostbite
-- Frostbite occurs in the fingers or toes because of the body's inability to maintain a high enough internal temperature in those areas. Frostbite can occur at different temperatures for a number of reasons including but not limited to: poor circulation, lack of movement (when the fingers or toes hurt always keep them moving!), low blood sugar, inproper clothing, repeated exposure to cold environments, etc. Left untreated frostbite may lead to permanent damage including the amputation of fingers, toes, and even parts of the hand or foot. Always seek medical attention for any cases of frostbite.
Essential Oils:  Geranium     Ginger     Hyssop     Lavender (English)

 Immediate Frostbite Care
Fresh Geranium oil (less than 2 years old) is the thing to have for frostbite. Drop it directly onto the affected area and massage the oil into the skin as thoroughly as possible. Obviously, a warm environment should be sought out as soon as possible - a house, a car heater, a fire, etc. If heat sources are unavailable place hands into your crotch or armpits as those are generally the warmest areas of the body. If Geranium oil is unavailable, use Lavender oil directly on the skin. If Lavender oil is unavailable some sources suggest that Hyssop or Ginger may help this condition as well - though I highly recommend that you always dilute Hyssop oil before applying it to the skin.

Fungal Infections
-- Fungal Infections There are two types of fungal infections: External (it's just on the skin surface) and Internal (the fungus is living inside the blood and erupts on the skin surface or in the toe nail or in the scalp (hair-loss) or in the vagina (vaginitis) etc.). It is common practice for a general practitioner (doctor) or a dermatologist (doctor specializing in skin conditions) or gynocologist (vaginal doctor) to assume that any fungal condition is external. So, the patient gets the typical run-around:

 Muscle Cramps & Calcium
Muscle cramps often occur during long, intense workouts or sporting events such as running or mountain bike racing. Whenever the body sweats, it uses up calcium. Extended periods of 'sweat time' can reduce levels of calcium in the body which can lead to muscle cramps (among other things). One quick way to restore calcium levels, and therefore reduce or eliminate muscle cramps, is by eating Tums or some other calcium rich food.

Wasp Sting -- No Oils On Hand
Cut an onion or piece of garlic and rub the juice of it onto the sting.

"In the case of bites and stings, if one has no bottle of essence to hand, an excellent substitute treatment is to rub the affected parts with the flowers of lavender or rosemary, sage leaves, a cut leek or a piece of onion or garlic. The pain quickly disappears and the inflammation fades away within a few minutes (one should not of coarse forget to remove a wasp's sting in due course.)" - The Practice of Aromatherapy by Jean Valnet, pg 68.

Wasp Sting Wash
Mix one teaspoon vinegar, one drop Lavender, and one drop Chamomile (Roman or German). Use a cotton swab to wash the sting area as desired.
